Snehta Artists Residency Program 2022 (May - July) | Open Call Announcement

Snehta Residency is happy to announce this period’s in house curator, Ioanna Gerakidi, and participating artistis for May - July, Fionnuala McGowan, Chloe Karnezi and Othonas Charalambous. Each one of them is coming from different backgrounds, following different practices and experimenting with different mediums but they all focus on how to make their audience challenge their way of thinking, seeing. Fionnuala through immersive environments, Chloe through video and Othonas through audio explore respectively the limits of human intervention in space, the lens through which that is viewed and in relation with the rest inhabitants of said space.

This year’s residency program is under the auspices of the City of Athens.

Short Curriculum Vitae

Fionnuala McGowan is an Irish artist who graduated from the Glasgow school of art in 2014 and is now based between Glasgow and Athens. She works predominantly in print, often using it in combination with sculpture and installation to create immersive environments. Since graduating she has explored this medium through her own practice and by co-founding Mobile Print Studio, a partnership which promotes printmaking through pop-up workshops. She has exhibited across Europe, including London, Edinburgh and Athens.

Chloe Karnezi is a Greek-British new media artist and writer based in Athens. Since studying Computational Arts at Goldsmiths, University of London, she has worked with Machine Learning, 3D modelling, node-based visual programming, and Arduino. Her work seeks to rediscover the world through a digital lens aimed both inwardly, at notions of bodyhood and self, and outwardly, at the environment. She is also interested in exploring alternative ways of digitally documenting the present and making sense of the past. As a writer, Chloe has been associated with such names as Monocle, LiFO, and Transmoderna.

Othonas Charalambous is a visual artist, poet and writer based between London, UK and Nicosia, Cyprus. He completed postgraduate studies at the University of the Arts, London in 2014. His practice incorporates video, sound and sculpture to create hybrid expressions between body and landscape, exploring spatiotemporal narratives that encompass biopolitics, corporeality and elaborations of corporeal existence through and around natural environments.

He is the co-founder and co-director of the interdisciplinary programme ‘Platform: Climate Challenge’ - Visual Artists and Art Theorists Association, 2018-20 and lead curator of ‘Perceiving Landscape(s)’ - International Association of Photography and Theory, 2020-21. His work is exhibited worldwide including at CEAC Chinese European Art Center - Xiamen, China (2022), Het Nieuwe instituut - Rotterdam, Netherlands (2021), Salone Degli Incanti - Trieste, Italy (2018) among others.
