“Desire Lines” is a group show with works by Iza Koczanowska, Minsun Kim and Ruby Reding curated by Eleni Riga. The title draws inspiration from landscape architecture and queer phenomenology, a field of philosophy that examines lived experience and queerness. It denotes the unexpected encounters, marks, and objects that guide us to take alternative paths often based on desire rather than reason. During their three-month residency, the artists have created new works through directing their bodies towards or away from certain objects and have mutually impacted each other’s orientation.
Iza Koczanowska starts from the admission that the public space was not designed to accommodate female bodies. Taking on fear, she creates new works utilizing technology and assimilating city’s architectural elements in order to propose new urban deviations.
Minsun Kim engages with the notion of time introducing cultural and philosophical references from her home country, Korea. The artist dissolves time boundaries and linear narratives by proposing circular and interwoven forms.
Ruby Reding dives into complex issues of toxicity and biodiversity initiating an in- situ research at different river locations near Athens, following a wanderer around the remnants of a former abundant natural source.
This year’s residency is under the auspices of the City of Athens.

H ομαδική έκθεση «Desire Lines» αποτελείται από έργα των Iza Koczanowska, Minsun Kim και Ruby Reding σε επιμέλεια της Ελένης Ρήγα. Ο τίτλος αντλεί έμπνευση από την αρχιτεκτονική τοπίου και την κουήρ φαινομενολογία, το πεδίο της φιλοσοφίας που εξετάζει τη βιωμένη εμπειρία και την κουήρ ταυτότητα. Υποδηλώνει τις απροσδόκητες συναντήσεις, τα σημάδια και τα αντικείμενα που μας οδηγούν να ακολουθήσουμε εναλλακτικά μονοπάτια, τα οποία συχνά βασίζονται περισσότερο στην επιθυμία παρά στη λογική. Κατά τη διάρκεια της τρίμηνης διαμονής τους, οι τρεις καλλιτέχνιδες δημιούργησαν νέα έργα κατευθύνοντας το σώμα τους προς ή μακριά από ορισμένα αντικείμενα και επηρέασαν αμοιβαία η μια την κατεύθυνση της άλλης.
Η Iza Koczanowska ξεκινά από την παραδοχή ότι ο δημόσιος χώρος δεν σχεδιάστηκε για να φιλοξενεί γυναικεία σώματα. Αμφισβητώντας το φόβο, δημιουργεί νέα έργα αξιοποιώντας την τεχνολογία και αφομοιώνοντας αρχιτεκτονικά υλικά με σκοπό να προτείνει νέες αστικές παρεκκλίσεις.
Η Minsun Kim συμπλέκεται με την έννοια του χρόνου εισάγοντας πολιτιστικές και φιλοσοφικές αναφορές από την πατρίδα της, την Κορέα. H καλλιτέχνις διασπά τους χρονικούς περιορισμούς και τις γραμμικές αφηγήσεις προτείνοντας κυκλικές και συνυφασμένες φόρμες.
Η Ruby Reding καταπιάνεται με πολύπλοκα θέματα τοξικότητας και βιοποικιλότητας ξεκινώντας μια επιτόπια έρευνασε διάφορες παραποτάμιες τοποθεσίες ακολουθώντας μια περιπλανώμενη στα απομεινάρια μιας μέχρι πρότινος πλούσιας φυσικής πηγής.
Tο φετινό πρόγραμμα φιλοξενίας τελεί υπό την αιγίδα του Δήμου Αθηναίων.
