In her solo exhibition at Snehta Satellite artist Valia Papastamou presents works that act as snapshots of the fleshy interface that the body is (S.Ahmed). In the in between of materiality and signification, folding and unfolding, textuality of skin and texxturality of words, writing can be thought as skin and clothing as adopted/adoptive skin (H.Cixous). Rethinking depth and surface, the works expose the ways the skin becomes, open to be read, as a multiplicity, the same time that it can be perceived as the most profound thing, as P.Valery mentions.
The title refers to H. Cixou's perspective on the skin of the other on which Ι write (myself), on what is written so as not to be read, which is based on Stendhal's text:
"I was wearing white English trousers made of twill, I wrote on the waistband inside: October 16, 1832, I’m going to be fifty, thus abbreviated so as not to be understood: I mgo ingt obe 5" (Stendhal, The life of Henry Brulard).
Valia Papastamou (born in 1987) has had two solo exhibitions: one at the Contemporary Art Center Ileana Tounta, “Phonologic Minerals”, in the framework of the two-person exhibition “Two Person Show-Maria Tzanakou & Valia Papastamou” (2017) and another at Two Elephants, Heraklion, ”Come Back to the House Where Nobody Lives” (2016).
She has participated in group exhibitions in Greece and abroad, including: “Still Here Tomorrow” (Artworks Fellows 2018), at Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (2018); “Caritas Romana-15 Acts of Devotion”, Center of Contemporary Art of Thessaloniki, as part of the 59th Thessaloniki International Film Festival (2018); “Art Athina 2018, Contemporary Art Center Ileana Tounta Booth; Athens Conservatory (2018), ”Impulses of Inalienability”, Eins Gallery, Limassol (2018), Rooms 2017 plus +, Kappatos Gallery (2017); ”Rooms 2017”, St George Lycabettus (2017); “Distant Utopias”, in the framework of “Utopia 500″, at Onassis Cultural Center Athens (”Stegi”) in collaboration with the School of Fine Arts of Athens, Diplareios School (2016).
She has been a fellow artist of Stavros Niarchos Foundation, as part of the first SNF Artist Fellowship Program of Artworks Organization (2018)

Στη πρώτη ατομική έκθεση που πραγματοποιεί στο Snehta Satellite η εικαστικός Βάλια Παπαστάμου παρουσιάζει έργα που εμφανίζονται ως στιγμιότυπα της σαρκικής διεπαφής που είναι το σώμα (S.Ahmed). Στο ενδιάμεσο υλικότητας και σημασίας, δίπλωσης και αναδίπλωσης, κειμενικότητας(textuality) του δέρματος και υφής(texxturality) των λέξεων, η γραφή μπορεί να ειδωθεί ως δέρμα και το ρούχο ως υιοθετημένο δέρμα (H.Cixous). Επανεξετάζοντας το βάθος και την επιφάνεια, τα έργα εκθέτουν τρόπους με τους οποίους το δέρμα γίνεται, ανοιχτό να διαβαστεί, ως πολλαπλότητα, την ίδια στιγμή που μπορεί να γίνει αντιληπτό ως το πιο βαθύ πράγμα, όπως αναφέρει ο P.Valery.
Ο τίτλος αντλεί από τη διατύπωση της Cixous σχετικά με το δέρμα του Άλλου στο οποίο γράφω (τον εαυτό μου), σε αυτό που γράφεται ώστε να μην είναι αναγνώσιμο, οπως εκκινεί από το κείμενο του Stendhal: "Φορούσα λευκό αγγλικό παντελόνι από ύφασμα, έγραψα στο εσωτερικό της ζώνης October 16, 1832, I’m going to be fifty (16 Οκτωβρίου 1832, θα είμαι 50 ετών) συντομευμένα έτσι ώστε να μην είναι είναι κατανοητό: I mgo ingt obe 5" ( Stendhal, The life of Henry Brulard)
Η Βάλια Παπαστάμου (γεν. 1987) έχει πραγματοποιήσει δύο ατομικές εκθέσεις, στο Κέντρο Σύγχρονης Τέχνης Ιλεάνα Τούντα με τίτλο «Φωνολογικά Oρυκτά» στο πλαίσιο της διπλής ατομικής έκθεσης ”Two Person Show–Maria Tzanakou & Valia Papastamou” (2017) και στο Two Elephants, Ηράκλειο Κρήτης, με τίτλο ”Come Back to the House Where Nobody Lives”(2016).
