Snehta Satellite is happy to invite you to the solo exhibition by Greek based artist Vasiliki Koukou titled - The Secret Garden of Equal Life. Inspired by the book of Frances Hodgson Burnett “The Secret Garden” Vasiliki Koukou appropriates Satellites’ vitrine and library space with a new body of work to make a comment of the contrasting relationship between the concepts of Utopia and the everyday. In her artwork Vassiliki Koukou uses abstraction and surrealist representation to invoke a sense of the mythical and the magical. Her sculptures appear often as amalgamations between talismanic objects and wooden toys inspiring a sense of playfulness. In this contributes further the use of a vibrant colour palette and the figurative, human-like features of her sculptures. The use of the line and flat colourations allow her to inherit a primitive matière which she then incorporates through assemblages and collages in her sculptures and paintings. The artist Vasiliki Koukou lives and works in Athens. She graduated from the Athens School of Fine Arts in 2019 under the guidance of Angelos Antonopoulos. She was awarded with the Rosa Luxemburg award in 2019. Το Snehta Satellite με ιδαίτερη χαρά σας προσκαλεί στην ατομική έκθεση της Ελληνίδας εικαστικού Βασιλικής Κούκου The Secret Garden of Equal Life.
Η Βασιλική Κούκου εμπνευσμένη από το έργο της Frances Hodgson Burnett “ The Secret Garden”, οικειοποιείται την βιτρίνα και τη βιβλιοθήκης του Satellite εκθέτοντας μια εκ νέου εικαστική ενότητα έργων με σκοπό να σχολιάσει την αντιφατική σχέση μεταξύ των εννοιών ουτοπίας και καθημερινότητας. Η εικαστική της γλώσσα προσδιορίζεται μέσα από την αφαιρετική και άλλωτε υπερεαλιστική αναπαραστατικότητα βασισμένη σε παραδόσεις μαγείας, μεταφυσικότητας και παραμυθιού. Αποφεύγοντας την ιδέα της ενηλικίωσης, η γλυπτική της προκύπτει ως συγχώνευση φυλαχτών και ξύλινων παιχνιδιών, εγείροντας έτσι το αίσθημα ανεμελιάς και παιδικότητας. Τα γνωρίσματα αυτά εντείνονται μέσω της χρήσης έντονης χρωματικής παλέτας και της σχεδόν ανθρώπινης ανάπλασης των φιγούρων της. Η χρήση της γραμμής και των ενιαίων χρωματικών επιφανειών παίζουν πρωτεύοντα ρόλο στην πριμιτιβιστική αισθητική της ζωγραφικής και γλυπτικής της δημιουργίας. Η Βασιλική Κούκου ζει και εργάζεται στην Αθήνα. Απόφοιτος της Ανώτατης Σχολής Καλών Τεχνών (2019) υπό την καθοδήγηση του Άγγελου Αντωνόπουλου. Έχει κερδίσει το βραβείο Rosa Luxembourg το 2019.
