“What remains when the story ends?” is the solo show exhibition by the artist Lucas Recchione as part of Snehta Residency Program in Athens during the time and space of a pandemic.
Time and space appear to be a central relationship investigated through the artist’s work, focusing on a state of transition. The artist, during his research, gathers people’s stories and memories from different places around the world. This state can be captured in his paintings/installations in which the artist recreates the scenes before the unexpected. Those stories remain alive but always shifting their meaning depending on the time and space exhibited. United through Recchione ’s narratives, the stories are transformed into collective memories, that otherwise wouldn’t get registered or remembered. His paintings are performing as the mediations between the artist and the world around him.
The use of painting, installation, photography, and storytelling as well as the physical interaction during his research with the subjects of the stories that he is dealing with, create a spectrum of possibilities employed by the artist in order to demonstrate the multiple layers connecting those stories. In that sense, storytelling unfolds with new meanings in multiple contemporaries. Recchione constructs his stories through various forms utilizing an extended language to develop a multi-faceted show. By letting the audience navigate the remains of his installations, created to perform as the receptor of his stories, engages the public to interact with his process of work.
Lucas Recchione (b. USA) lives and works in Berlin. Recchione holds an M.A in Architecture from the University of Applied Sciences in Stuttgart (2013), a B.F.A. from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston (2008), and a B.A. in Art History and Architectural Studies from Tufts University in Boston (2007).

Η ατομική έκθεση του καλλιτέχνη Lucas Recchione, με τίτλο “What remains when the story ends?” λαμβάνει χώρα στην Αθήνα κατά τη διάρκεια της πανδημίας, στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος του Snehta Residency.
Κατά τη διάρκεια της έρευνας του, ο καλλιτέχνης συλλέγει ιστορίες και αναμνήσεις ανθρώπων από διαφορετικούς τόπους ανά τον κόσμο. Η έννοια του χωρο-χρόνου αποτελεί βασική σχέση κατά την οποία ερευνά αυτές τις ιστορίες. Επικεντρώνεται στην περιγραφή μίας μεταβατικής κατάσταση, αποδίδοντας τη μεταιχμιακή στιγμή, πριν συμβεί κάποιο απρόσμενο γεγονός που πιθανώς να αλλάξει τη ροή των πραγμάτων. Επαναδιαπραγματεύεται αυτή την κατάσταση μέσα από τους πίνακες και τις εγκαταστάσεις του. Οι ζωγραφικοί του πίνακες επιτελούν τη λειτουργία διαμεσολαβητή μεταξύ του καλλιτέχνη και του κόσμου. Οι ιστορίες παραμένουν ζωντανές αλλά το νόημά τους πάντοτε αλλάζει σύμφωνα με το χρόνο και το χώρο στον οποίο αυτές εκτίθενται. Σκοπός του αποτελεί την διαμόρφωση συλλογικής μνήμης μέσα από τις αφηγήσεις του δημιουργού.
Με τη χρήση διαφόρων μέσων όπως η ζωγραφική, η εγκατάσταση, η φωτογραφία και η αφήγηση, ο καλλιτέχνης δημιουργεί ένα φάσμα δυνατοτήτων ώστε να επιδείξει τους πολλούς και διαφορετικούς χρόνους και τόπους που συνδέονται αυτές οι ιστορίες. Κατ’ επέκταση, με την εξιστόρηση τους ξετυλίγονται καινούρια σημαίνονται που ενυπάρχουν μεταξύ πολλών συγχρονικοτήτων. O Lucas συγκροτεί τις ιστορίες του μέσα από διαφορετικές φόρμες χρησιμοποιώντας μία ιδιότυπη γλώσσα στην προσπάθεια ανάπτυξης ενός πολύ-επίπεδου έργου. Προτρέποντας το κοινό να περιηγηθεί ανάμεσα απ΄ό,τι έχει απομείνει από τις ζωγραφικές εγκαταστάσεις, οι οποίες παίζουν τον ρόλο υποδοχέα για τις ιστορίες του, εμπλέκει τους επισκέπτες στην διαδικασία της καλλιτεχνικής δημιουργίας.
Ο Lucas Recchione, γεννημένος στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες, ζει και εργάζεται στο Βερολίνο. Έχει ολοκληρώσει τις μεταπτυχιακές του σπουδές στην Αρχιτεκτονική από το University of Applied Sciences στην Στουγκάρδη (2013), και είναι κάτοχος προπτυχιακών τίτλων από το School of the Museum of Fine Arts (2008), και από το Tufts University στην Βοστώνη (2007).
