Evgenia Ioannidou uses sculpture, video and text as an exploration of personal stories -fictional or not- and structural features of houses and other architectures. Her work is an attempt to unify disparate elements and objects displaced from their original context into the form of sculptural installations.
In her first solo exhibition at Snehta Ioannidou will create a work resembling a wooden floor/bridge made out of ceramic and in conjunction with a photographic series focusing on an already existing cement bridge here in Athens. She seeks to redefine the symbolic meaning of the bridge as a passageway, moving from one state to another; as an attempt to overcome and ”to become”. The use of ceramic in her work knowingly connects the work to the methods of an archaeologist/conservator in an effort to fill the missing pieces from a displaced and fragmented Object.
Evgenia Ioannidou graduated from Athens School of Fine Arts, 2020. Η Ευγενία Ιωαννίδου ασχολείται με την γλυπτική, το βίντεο και την γραφή ως μέθοδο διερεύνησης προσωπικών ιστοριών - φαντασιακών και μη - διαφόρων αρχιτεκτονικών δομών και χώρων. Μέσω του έργου της ενοποιεί ανόμοια στοιχεία και αντικείμενα, μετατοπισμένα από την πρωτύτερη και αυθεντική τους θέση.
Με αφορμή την συμμετοχή της στο πρόγραμμα Walking Backwards, στην ατομική της έκθεση η εικαστικός μελετά αφηγήσεις και αρχιτεκτονικές δομές του παρελθόντος τοποθετημένες σε ένα καινούργιο εννοιολογικά πλαίσιο. Η σύνθεσή της θυμίζει ένα ξύλινο έδαφος/γέφυρα δημιουργημένη από πηλό, σε παράλληλη συζήτηση με μια φωτογραφική σειρά από μια πραγματική τσιμεντένια γέφυρα από την πόλη της Αθήνας. Η Ιωαννίδου επιδιώκει να επαναπροσδιορίσει την συμβολική σημασία της γέφυρας ως πέρασμα από το ένα μέρος στο επόμενο; ως απόπειρα να φτάσει στο “εν δυνάμει”. Με την χρήση πηλού, συνδέει την καλλιτεχνική της μεθοδολογία με εκείνη ενός αρχαιολόγου/συντηρητή, προσπαθώντας να ανεφοδιασει τα υπολειπόμενα κομμάτια από ένα μετατοπισμένο και κατακερματισμένο Αντικείμενο.
Η Ευγενία Ιωαννίδου αποφοίτησε από την Ανώτατη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών, στην Αθήνα το 2020.
