Για πρώτη φορά το Snehta διοργανώνει ένα πρόγραμμα φιλοξενίας που δεν έχει ως θέμα την Αθήνα.
 
Αυτό το Σεπτέμβριο συμμετέχοντες στο Snehta είναι πέντε εικαστικοί που έχουν τη βάση εργασίας τους στο Εδιμβούργο, ειδικότερα έχουν εργαστεί στο  Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop  και είναι ενήμεροι ό ένας τα έργα του άλλου. Αυτοί οι καλλιτέχνες συναντήθηκαν στην Αθήνα στις 10 Σεπτεμβρίου και θα ταξιδέψουν στο Πήλιο όπου και θα διαμείνουν σε έναν από τους παραδοσιακούς οικισμούς για 6 ημέρες. Ένα από τα επίσης παραδοσιακά σπίτια του οικισμού θα αποτελέσει το καθημερινό σημείο εκκίνησης και ορμητήριο των καλλιτεχνών για εξερευνήσεις στη ευρύτερη περιοχή, ενώ στον ίδιο χώρο θα τους προσφερθεί και κατάλληλα διασκευασμένο εργαστήριο.
 
Το συγκεκριμένο πρόγραμμα φιλοξενίας ξεκίνησε με τη διάθεση να εξερευνήσουμε αυτή τη φορά μη αστικούς χώρους για να αντλήσουμε νέα εννοιολογικά σημεία που θα επιτρέψουν να χρησιμοποιήσουμε περισσότερα πρακτικά εργαλεία που χρειαζόμαστε ως δημιουργοί. Ελπίζουμε μάλιστα οτι αυτό το πρώτο βήμα, ήδη θα φανερώσει τους άδηλους τρόπους με τους οποίους συνήθως συνδέεται ένας αστικός χώρος (εδώ η Αθήνα), με τον μη-αστικό (Πήλιο). Εργαζόμενοι προς μια κατεύθυνση πολυπαραγοντικής επανασύνδεσής τους, θα ανασκευάασσουμε τις απόψεις για την συνύπαρξη του ανθρώπου με τον φυσικό κόσμο. Το πρόγραμμα αυτό αποτελεί περισσότερο μια πρώτη προσπάθεια να μάθουμε τι δυνατότητες έχουμε να αναδείξουμε το διάλογο της ετερότητας των δυο αυτών χώρων και αναλόγως να προχωρήσουμε. Αυτό λοιπόν που θα προκύψει απο το συγκεκριμένο πρόγραμμα θα είναι αρχικά προτάσεις και όχι ολοκληρωμένη δουλειά.

 
ΚΑΛΛΙΤΕΧΝΕΣ 
O Alexandro Lopez κατάγεται απο τη Χιλή και εργάζεται στο Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop. Σπούδασε καλές τέχνες στην Αργεντινή και εργάστηκε ως συντηρητής έργων τέχνης στην Λατινική Αμερική και τη Μεγάλη Βρετανία. Ειδικεύεται στις παραδοσιακές τεχνικές γλυπτικής, χύτευση, καλούπια κ.α. Επιπλέον εργάζεται ως δάσκαλος και τρέχει προγράμματα για ενήλικες σε γλυπτική πέτρας και ξύλου.

Η Δεσποινα Νισυρίου κατάγεται απο την Ελλάδα αλλά ζεί και εργάζεται στο Εδιμβούργο.
Μεγάλωσε στην Αθήνα σε ένα σπίτι γεμάτο οικογενιακά κιμείλια, ακούγοντας ιστορίες απο τη Μικρασιατική καταστροφή, την ελληνική αντίσταση και τον Εμφύλιο.
Την ενδιέφερε πάντα η επεξεργασία όλου αυτού του υλικού μέσα απο εικαστικά μέσα για αυτό και σπούδασε γλυπτική, κεραμική και ζωγραφική στην Ελλάδα και τη Μεγάλη Βρετανία.
Η δουλειά της κινείται ελεύθερα μεταξύ διαφορετικών υλικών, τεχνικών και μέσων. Η εικαστική της γλώσσα έχει να κάνει με κάτι το αργό, το ήρεμο, το ασήμαντο και αυτό το δυσλειτουργικό.

 

Ο Eric Schumacher γεννήθηκε στο Λοξεμβούργο αλλά ζεί και εργάζεται στο Εδιμβούργο. Μετά τις σπουδές του στο Λοξεμβούργο και τις Βρυξέλλες, σπούδασε Γλυπτική στο Edinburgh College of Art.
  Στην δουλειά του ο Schumacher ενδιαφέρεται για την στυλιστική και την ποιοτηκή ιδιοσυστασία του αρχιτεκτονικού χώρου και τη σχέση μεταξύ των τεχνικών, της μαζικής παραγωγής και του τυχαίου. Έχει εργαστεί ως κατασκευαστής (fabricator) μέσα σε χώρους μουσείου και γκαλερί και αυτό τον έχει οδηγήσει να ενσωματώσει στη δουλειά του στοιχεία που σχετιζονται με την παρουσίαση έργων τέχνης σε προθήκες και άλλα μουσειακά μέσα παρουσίασης.

 

Η Kjersti Sletteland κατάγεται απο τη Νορβηγία αλλά ζεί και εργάζεται στο Εδιμβούργο. Όταν ερωτάται απαντά πως είναι γλύπτρια μολονότι πολλές απο τις δουλειές της είναι δυσδιάστατες και παρουσάζονται σε τοίχο. Η δουλειά της ειναι πολλές φορές ανάλαφρη και χρειάζεται επιπλέον μέσα υποστήριξης για να παρουσιαστεί. Θεωρεί πως η σχέση θεατή, έργου και χώρου είναι βασικό στοιχείο της ερμηνείας της δουλειάς της, τονίζει όμως πως αυτή είναι μια αρκετά γενική εξήγηση αλλά θεωρεί πως η ασάφεια είναι και προνομιο του εικαστικού. Έχει εκθέσει δουλειά της στην Νοβηγία τη Μεγάλη Βρετανία και πρόσφατα και στην Ιαπωνία και είναι ενθουσιασμένη για την επικείμενη νεα της δουλειά εδώ στην Αθήνα.

Ο Αύγουστος Βεϊνόγλου είναι γεννημένος στην Αθήνα και εργάζεται μεταξύ Αθήνας και Εδιμβούργου. Είναι εικαστικόs και ιδρυτής του Snheta residency.
Μέσα απο τον διπλό του ρόλο έχει αναπτύξει ενδιαφέρον για την ενδυνάμωση και ενεργό συμετοχή του κοινού στο εικαστικό έργο μέσα απο την χρήση δίαφορων στρατηγικών.
Οι εικαστικές του εγκαταστάσεις έχουν πολλές φορές να κάνουν με την οικιοποίηση στοιχείων που βρίσκει στο αρχιτεκτονικό περιβάλον που βρίσκεται συνήθως σε μια κατάσταση μετάβασης ή μεταφόρφωσης.  Μέσα απο το έργο του ερευνά πως αυτά τα στοιχεία μπορούν να επανπροσδιοριστούν και να θεσπίσουν μια νέα θέαση και εμπειρία στο περιβάλλον αυτό.  Έχει εκθέση έργα του στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο, την Εσθονία και πρόσφατα στην Ολλανδία.

For the first time, Snehta hosts and organizes a residency with Athens not being the sole focus of research.
 
This September participants are five Edinburgh based artists that have worked in Edinburgh Sculpture workshop alongside each other. The artists will meet in Athens and then travel to mount Pilio where they will stay in a traditional home for six days. The home will be a starting point for further explorations in the area and will function as a studio and research space. Snehta Outreach will last for approximately three weeks and will culminate in a small exhibition on Sunday the 27th of September '15 at Snehta.
The residency sprang as a result of our desire to explore how rural Pilio can inform our perspectives with a new set of conceptual and practical tools as artists and thinkers. We hope that this first step can revitalise our awareness and will ferment new conceptual ties between the City – Athens and Places which are peripheral to it. Working towards a sense of reconnection or revisiting of vernacular wisdom that sprang from mans symbiosis with the natural world the residency is an attempt to explore new contextual possibilities and associations and present them as proposals rather than finished works.
 
Similar to the first Snehta residency in Athens back in April 2012 the project will function as a pilot project for a - “Snehta outreach programme”.
 
Artists

Alexandro Lopez is a Chilean sculptor living and working in Edinburgh. He currently has a studio in Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop.He studied Art in Argentina and has worked as a conservator in Latin America and Great Britain. He has produced stone and wood sculptures for commissions and international art exhibitions. He has studied classical sculpture and has training in traditional modeling and casting techniques. Alongside the production of new work he also runs workshops for adults in stone and wood carving.

Despina Nissiriou is a Greek artist living in Edinburgh. She grew up in Athens in a house full of family relics, listening to stories from the Asia Minor Disaster, the Greek Resistance and the Greek Civil War. She wanted to process this heritage through art and she studied sculpture, ceramics and painting in Greece and the UK. Despina’s work moves freely between different materials and techniques as well as different disciplines. Her visual language speaks about something slow, quiet, insignificant and flawed.

Eric Schumacher (born 1985) is a Luxembourgish artist currently based at the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop. After completing his studies at the École des Beaux Arts in Luxembourg-City, he moved to Brussels to attend the Sculpture Course at the ERG, Instituts St.Luc. In 2008 Schumacher moved to Edinburgh where he graduated from the Sculpture course at Edinburgh College of Art in 2010. In his work, Schumacher finds interest in the juxtapositional, stylistic and qualitative  intervention of the spatial environment, and the relationship between craftsmanship, mass production and the accidental. His work as a fabricator and installer within the gallery and museum environment has lead to the integration of museum display arrangements in his work, an approach which he will soon explore further through a course in Scenography in Berlin.

Kjersti Sletteland is a Norwegian artist living in Edinburgh. When asked, she calls herself a sculptor but the fact is that some of her works are 2-dimensional and often wall based. So why this faithfulness to a categorization that she might not belong to? Sculpture, the way she sees it, deals with space and it communicates with the viewer's body in a way other art forms often don’t.  Traditional sculpture is placed in the middle of a room and you can walk freely around it like a dance; its size, shape, material texture and supposed weight will affect the way you experience it. Her work is often not free-standing, often light and sometimes small, so what is the relevance? It is what she sees as the core of sculptural practice: The objects relationship to the viewer and to space and the friction it causes in the room and in the spectator’s nervous system. Vague, perhaps but that should be visual art’s prerogative. Kjersti has exhibited her works for many years in Norway, UK and Japan and is now very excited to produce and exhibit works in Greece.

Augustus Veinoglou (b.1982, Athens) is a practicing artist and arts organiser born in Athens. In both his roles he has grown increasingly interested in the empowerment and active participation of the audience in the ‘artwork’ or creative situation, through the employment of various creative strategies, varying from the sculptural to the participatory. His installation work stems mainly from the appropriation of architectural and spatial elements that describe the transitory state of situation and spaces. He explores how these elements can be re-arranged or re-enacted to newly impact our experience and perception in space.
