About eggshells and other possible becomings is the first solo show of the British artist Ruth Switalski in Athens. This exhibition is devoted to the archetypal human body, highlighting the global female body using social feminist and Deleuzian theories. Switalski’s bodies extend in different media: sculpture, installation and video among others. The artist gives a glimpse of her research on female representation through mythological characters such as goddesses, muses and nymphs and challenges the traditional subject-object dichotomy. The exhibition itself is conceived as an empty shell, a broken cocoon, a peeled skin. Ruth Switalski (b. 1991 in Leeds, UK) lives and works in Glasgow, Scotland. Switalski graduated from the Master of Letters (MLitt) in Fine Art Practice: Painting from the Glasgow School of Art in 2014. Her work questions the essence of painting with emphasis on materiality. She is interested in feminism, anthropology and anatomy. She has also founded and run the gallery 1 Royal Terrace from 2013-2016. Σχετικά με τα κελύφη αυγών και άλλα πιθανά γεγονότα είναι η πρώτη ατομική έκθεση της Bρετανίδας καλλιτέχνιδας Ruth Switalski στην Αθήνα. Η έκθεση είναι αφιερωμένη στο αρχέτυπο του ανθρώπινου σώματος και κυρίως του oλοποιημένου γυναικείου σώματος καθώς εμπνέεται από κοινωνικές φεμινιστικές θεωρίες και τη φιλοσοφία των Deleuze και Guattari, όπως διαφαίνεται από τον τίτλο. Η Switalski καταπιάνεται με διαφορετικά μέσα: γλυπτική, εγκατάσταση και βίντεο μεταξύ άλλων. Η καλλιτέχνιδα μας προσκαλεί να γνωρίσουμε την έρευνά της γύρω από τις αναπαραστάσεις του γυναικείου φύλου που εστιάζονται σε μυθολογικούς χαρακτήρες (θεές, μούσες, νύμφες) και δοκιμάζει τα όρια της παραδοσιακής διχοτόμησης υποκειμένου-αντικειμένου. Η ίδια η έκθεση έχει συλληφθεί ως ένα κενό κέλυφος, ένα σπασμένο κουκούλι, ένα αποφλοιωμένο δέρμα. Η Ruth Switalski (γ. 1991, Λιντς, Αγγλία) ζει και εργάζεται στη Γλασκώβη της Σκωτίας. Η Switalski ολοκλήρωσε το Μaster of Letters (MLitt) in Fine Art : Practice στο Glasgow School of Art το 2014. Η δουλειά της καταπιάνεται με την ουσία της ζωγραφικής με έμφαση στον υλισμό. Τα έργα της κάνουν συχνά αναφορά στο φεμινισμό, την ανθρωπολογία και την ανατομία. Παράλληλα, ίδρυσε και επιμελήθηκε το χώρο τέχνης 1 Royal Terrace από το 2013-2016.
